Hidden Treasures

The photos of African-American Charlotteans (NC) incorporated into these crazy quilt squares are taken from the Robert Jackson Family collection.  Flaps of material cover the photos (pulled back here and secured with buttons) and are reminders that African Americans were, for many years, the hidden treasures within a society that undervalued them.

Materials:   Commercial cotton, velvet, silk fabrics;  polyester batting; cotton, polyester, and metallic  thread; bead, ribbon, lace, buttons, and metal embellishment.

Techniques:  digital transfer of images to fabric;  machine pieced and quilted;  hand application of embellishments
